Wet Alaska

Over the past five decades, Alaska has seen a substantial increase in precipitation. The Southeast & South-Central part of the state has seen only single digit increases, which is probably a good thing considering much of that area is a rain forest.

Interior Alaska has seen a 12% increase in precipitation. I can’t say I’m surprised by that, as we definitely seem to be getting more snow during the winter. With a warming trend, we were bound to see more snowfall.

Still, it’s intriguing to see the actual numbers.

Cooler Air

The wildfire smoke started to drift into the valleys on Saturday, which was followed by the rain on Sunday. After 90 degree weather last week, the high today was 55F, with a constant mist in the air. The rain gauge says we have received 1.15″ in the past 36 hours. I felt like I was working inside an aquarium all day.

If you don’t like the weather in Alaska, just hang around, it is bound to change in an hour or two.
