Warm Winter

This was probably not the Interior Alaska winter to miss.

Officially, Fairbanks has not had a day where it has dropped below minus thirty degrees. A normal winter will see 25 days at or below -30F.

Almost all of the snow Fairbanks has seen this winter was before winter officially began, meteorologically speaking. Of the 52.6″ of snow recorded this season, 50.1″ of it fell between September and November.

That leaves the 2015-2016 winter as the driest ever recorded with 2.5″, easily breaking the previous record of 4.9″ of snow in 1918-1919.

With just under three weeks remaining of winter, the National Weather Service is forecasting above normal temps and below normal precipitation for Alaska’s Interior.
