The B1G channels Game of Thrones

The Big Ten Conference is showing a video they produced before each home opener this season, which has a “sea to shining sea” theme, promoting the recent acquisition of Maryland & Rutgers.
A youtube user, Tom McGrath, took the B1G’s video, and set it to the opening music to “Game of Thrones“. In fact, the video does seem to borrow/steal from the opening sequence of the popular cable show. I found the video, complete with updated soundtrack, amusing. The lone, pond-hockey player skating in Minnesota was a nice touch.

Something tells me that Mr McGrath’s version is getting more views than the official B1G version.

Erin Crocker’s #16 sprint car sits in the front window display area of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum.
In 2002, Crocker had five A-feature wins in a 360 Sprint. In 2003, moving up to the 410 division, Crocker became the first woman in the World of Outlaws history to qualify for the Knoxville Nationals. She was the 2003 Nationals’ Rookie of the Year.

Off and Running

YQ Dog Team

The start of the Yukon Quest Dog Sled Race took place in downtown Fairbanks on Saturday. The race takes place between Fairbanks, AK and Whitehorse YT, with the two cities alternating start years. Normally, the race starts on the Chena River when it takes off from Fairbanks, but poor ice conditions led to a start on 2nd Avenue this year.

Eight mushers made it to the first check point at Two Rivers, which is a 73 mile leg, in 8 hours or less. The trail is fast and icey from all reports.

New Neighbor

I saw my ptarmigan again today. It was the third day in a row that we met on the trail, at about the same place. It no longer flushes from me now, it just sort of waddles off on its feathered feet looking up at me the entire time. It was only two feet away from me when we passed each other today.

I didn’t even threaten it with a camera. Mainly because I didn’t feel like taking my gloves off, or digging the camera out of the coat. I just told the bird, “Good afternoon. See you tomorrow”, then we both went our separate ways.
